My Wife of 13year gave Me Poisoned Fish – Man Tells Court

An Igando Customary Court in Lagos, Lagos State, has dissolved a 13-year-old marriage between Sikiru Odubiyi and Bilikisu Odubiyi, over threat to life. The court president, Mr R. Adeyeri, said all efforts to reconcile the couple had proved futile, as the petitioner insisted on a divorce.

“The court has no choice than to dissolve the union, in spite of the fact that the wife still claims she loves her husband,” he said.
Adeyeri ruled that the issue of custody of the three children should be referred to the family court within the Lagos judicial division.
The president also ordered the petitioner to pay N50,000 as rehabilitation cost to the respondent.
Odubiyi had filed a suit on Novevember 4, 2012, alleging that his wife, Bilikisu, tried to poison him.
Sikiru, 35, a commercial driver, told the court that Bilikisu tried to kill him, as she offered him a piece of fish she had laced with poison.
“When she served me the fish, I was suspicious because she had not cooked for me for long, so I asked her to taste it and she refused.
“I insisted and she put a small portion in her mouth; while I also pretended to be eating, she went outside to spit out the fish,” he said.
The petitioner said that he went after her and used his camera to snap the vomited fish and had brought the picture of the fish to the court as evidence. He alleged that thereafter, Bilikisu, attempted suicide by swallowing some drugs and fainted.
According to him, she would have died if not for his efforts in rushing her to the hospital. Bilikisu, 26, a trader, however, told the court that her husband was irresponsible and refused to pay his children’s school fees.
“He last paid our first child’s school fees when the boy was four years old and he is now 11. I have been paying his school fees all this while. “Anytime I asked him for the children’s school fees, he will become angry and I would source for money to pay them,” she said.
Bilikisu admitted that her parents beat up her husband, but asked for forgiveness.
